Play and playfulness is an essential component of using drama with clients in therapy as well as with students in the classroom.
This one-day workshop will help participants become more comfortable with engaging with a wide variety of playful, dramatic methods including helping others develop their creative imagination, self-expression, self-knowledge, and social relatedness.
Workshop participants will gain familiarity and greater ease with improvisation techniques and facilitating improvisation for others through active participation in a variety of dramatic activities. The place and use of warm-up exercises will also be explored, as an important method of helping group members warm up both to drama and to building trust and group cohesion with other group members. The Drama Therapy concept and continuum of “distancing” will be taught as a method of helping clinicians, teachers and guidance counsellors better assess their client’s/student’s readiness to engage in embodied therapeutic processes, and their ensuing choice of activities with groups and individuals.
This workshop is ideal for those wishing to learn more ways of incorporating drama into their therapy, teaching or guidance counsellor practice. The line between drama for creative expression and drama for the purpose of therapy will also be explored.
