Mental Health Therapist (Full time and part time position available)

 

POSITION TITLE: Mental Health Therapist

REPORTS TO: Clinical Manager/Executive Director

Position

The counsellor works with children, youth, individuals, couples and families, as well as facilitates groups to help them function more effectively and achieve holistic health, a balance between spiritual, social, physical, emotional and intellectual well-being. The focus of the counselling is on helping clients take responsibility for their lives by accessing their own inner resources and solutions, and by developing skills to enhance healthy lifestyles.

Responsibilities

  • Individual and Family Therapy
  • Maintains professional conduct and ensures confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients’ issues and the Aulneau Renewal Centre.
  • Assesses the counselling needs of individuals and family members.
  • Develops with the client(s) an appropriate plan for counselling services.
  • Refers client(s) to appropriate resources and other professionals when necessary.
  • Evaluates with the client the effectiveness of services provided.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of the assessment, intervention, planning and outcome of the counselling services provided and compiles statistics as required and maintains the electronic client management system.
  • Serves in an advocacy role for clients when appropriate
  • Works cooperatively with all staff at the Centre to ensure the efficient and smooth delivery of Centre services.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other professionals.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional development and stays abreast of current issues and concerns through professional development and by meeting with other workers.
  • Forms liaison with other community agencies involved with the child and family.
  • Networks with outside agencies and fosters good working relationships with community organizations.
  • Performs other related duties required.
  • Participates in regular clinical supervision and consultation with Clinical Manager

Group Therapy

  • Plans, promotes, facilitates and evaluates group programs
  • Researches and develops innovative curricula for workshops and support groups.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and facilitation of group programs as identified by community needs, e.g. parenting, anger management, grief and healing, healthy relationships, etc.

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Masters obtained in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Training in use of play therapy as a counselling tool.
  • Must be registered with a licensing body.

Experience:

  • Previous counselling experience, including individual work with children and families.
  • Must have experience using remote platforms

Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge and the application of practice of individual, and family/group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of community resources and how to make use of them.
  • Awareness and knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation’s Calls to Action.
  • Cultural competency.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language considered an asset.
  • Appreciation, acceptance and promotion of the human, spiritual and social values outlined in Aulneau Renewal Centre Mission Statement.
  • Fluency in French an asset.
  • Knowledge of CCPA/ MCSW code of ethics.
  • Must have awareness and understanding of the Calls to Action.

Who We Are Looking For

Aulneau Renewal Centre offers competitive wages, benefits package, GRSP contribution match, paid time off starting at 3 weeks, foundational Attachment training at no cost and professional development hours and dollars for trainings provided outside of the agency. In addition to this we have working committees where it is encouraged to join and contribute to the operations of the agency. Existing roles for employees include: mental health therapist, parent coach, administrative assistants for accounting and reception, workshop coordinator, IT specialist and intake coordinators.

Aulneau Renewal Centre takes pride in the ability to offer Attachment-based therapy. To this end, Aulneau provides multiple levels of training in Attachment every year, as well as other population specific training opportunities. In house trainings are at no charge to our contract therapists, and are open to all of our clinicians as well as the general public.

Contractors and employee therapists alike have access to therapeutic spaces in a heritage building to perform counselling therapy services with hours of operation that can support a flexible work schedule. We have onsite IT and administrative supports that can be easily accessed.

These partnerships have resulted in internships for roles in IT, Administrative Support and Mental Health Supports. Individuals placed in internships and practicums will be assigned a mentor who will provide compassionate support in navigating the processes of the agency specific to the role they are assigned. For student therapists this will include being integrated into a team of professional therapists assigned a dedicated supervisor and participate in clinical supervision and consultation.
